International Conference on 
Contemporary Islamic Ethics:
Key Issue, Concerns and Challenges

From an Islamic perspective, Islamic Ethical system stems from its belief in One God as the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe. Islam considers the human race to be a part of God's creation. The purpose of human life is to worship God, by leading this worldly life in harmony with the Divine Will, and thereby achieve peace in this world, and everlasting success in the life. Ethics is one of the fundamental sources of strength, just as immorality is one of the main causes of decline. For Muslims committed to living Islam as a way of life, contemporary society offers many challenges. A commitment to the common good exists in tension with the need to protect individual rights. In a world threatened with violence from many sources, self-defense and security take on new meaning. It is important to explore the tensions and the Islamic principles that can help Muslims live ethically and with integrity in society.

The Conference will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2012
 
The conference plenary session will take place in (tentatively) the Seminar Hall of the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Sekolah Pascasarjana UGM), Jalan Teknika Utara Pogung Yogyakarta 55281, Indonesia, or Convention Hall of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Jl. Adisucipto, Yogyakarta.

The first day of the conference will begin by the Open Plenary Sessions which consist of Keynote speech and presentations of main speakers followed by question and answer.
The conference will be followed by an Exclusive Meeting which will be attended by the Steering Committee members and selected speakers in the afternoon. This meeting aims to discuss further research and collaboration on the conference topic.
